Creating a tiny camera with big sensors and interchangable lenses seems like a big deal. But now Nikon has tried to complete this task with Nikon 1, and yes, it has done it. The camera is really awesome.

Something New:

There are uncountable features and specs that make Nikon 1 a special and fantastic piece. It has capability of shooting videos and stills simultaneously and without interrupting the video even at 1080p. A new feature named as Motion Snapshot allows you to attach photo and video together. Just snap a photo, and it shoots a second a video simultaneously at 60fps.

When you hit the play button, it spools out 2.5 seconds of slow-motion video at 24fps. When it comes to slow-motion, it can record at 1200fps at its super slowest point. Though the video resolution is 320×120.

Features and Specs:

Given below are the vital features and specs of this camera:

• 10.1-megapixel CX format CMOS sensor (13.2mm x 8.88mm)
• All-new Nikon 1 lens mount system
• Dual-core Expeed 3 sensor, which is why it’s all fast and able to do photo/video simultaneously
• A new 73-point hybrid autofocus system that combines contrast and phase-detection, switching between the two seamlessly;
• Video’s 1080p/30fps; 1080i/60fps; 720p/60fps; output in h.264 format
• Slow motion video: 640 x 240/400fps; 320 x 120/1,200 fps
• ISO 100-3200 (expandable to 6400)
• 10fps bursts, but with AF locked, it can shoot at up to 60fps, which is the world’s fastest continuous shooting speed, according to Nikon
• 12-bit RAW

Models and Pricing:

There are two models of the camera and both of them are now available.  The standard J1 ($650 for the kit) and the more pro V1 ($900). The V1 is a bit more smarter then the earlier one because you get a 1.4-million dot electronic viewfinder, electronic shutter, stereo input, multi-accessory port (for speedlight flash and GPS) and a magnesium alloy body with it.

Interchangable Lenses:

Now when it come to lenses, there are four choices before you – a 10-30mm f3.5-5.6 kit, 10mm f2.8 pancake, 30-100mm f3.8-5.6 zoom, and most interesting, a power zoom 10-100mm f4.5-5.6 lens designed for quiet zooming while shooting video. But the last one is also pretty costly (i.e. $750).

Wrap-Up:

There’s a lot more uncovered about this amazing camera like its sensor is markedly smaller than the sensor of Micro Four Third and dwarfed by the full APS-C-sized sensors in Sony’s new NEX cameras. Still it has power of beating both of them in picture quality. You can discover more about this camera at its official webpage.

Finally we can say that its a camera which can be a game changer in the competing market of tiny cameras. Many companies are presenting this type of cameras including Sony, Samsung, Olympus, Panasonic and Microless; still Nikon is the first one who has pushed two big players in the game. And for Nikon, it took five decades to create these game changers. So both of them may attract a lot of customers towards them.
