As soon as we think about Sony S1 and S2 tablets, two images come in our mind. One is of a folded back magazine while the other is of a clamshell form factor. Last time when we heard about these android tablets (in April), Sony was confirming our suspicions giving the Android devices a broad global release time frame of this fall.

Now just last week, both these tablets had cleared the FCC. It means that Sony S1 will come in four variations while Sony S2 will come with AT&T HSPA+ support. And now an internal note from Sony’s marketing group is showing the August pre-orders and a September release date of an unnamed tablet.

According to the note, the device will be available through Sony Direct, UK department store John Lewis, and a third still-unconfirmed retailer at launch. Availability on other retailers will be after Christmas holiday. The not doesn’t give much information about the tablet; but says that the tablet will stack up well against iPad and has some unique design features. As we know, both these tablets feature “unique design features” and the S1 closely resembles the iPad. The Sony S1 has a 9.4-inch touchscreen while Sony S2 has two 5.5-inch touchscreens that fold the case.
