Kobo has just launched its eReader Touch Edition in the market. When Kobo first announced the launch of its eReader Touch edition late last month, it referred to itself again and again as the “David” in a reader market full of “Goliaths.” The reason is clear–Kobo’s competition is from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Sony; and all these giants are kings in their respective fields.

So finally Kobo launched its eReader touch edition in hope that this device will not just increase their market value and revenue, but will also help the company in surviving in today’s competition. Lets take a look at the features of this device:

If we list down the key features of Kobo eReader Touch edition then the list will go something like this-

  • 6-inch touchscreen Pearl E Ink display
  • 2GB (~1.5GB accessible) internal space
  • MicroSD cards slot
  • Supports ePub and PDF (and unofficially CBZ, CBR, rtf, HTML, and txt)

The device has very simple operating system and is a comfortable one to hold.  The touchscreen elements quickly give responses to the users clicks. At first glance the new eReader looks like  amazing like the new Nook. The Pearl E Ink display of the device is unbeatable in the clarity. But some things that I didn’t like in the eReader Touch edition, are as follows:

  • Not really a better reading experience than other devices
  • No 3G option
  • Lacks the bells and whistles of Amazon’s Kindle services

So finally we can say that the new Kobo eReader touch edition is a good option if looking for a device strictly for reading. Its perfectly portable and can easily slip into your pocket; and its $129 price tag makes it pretty affordable for those who only want an eReader for reading.
