We know that Sony is well known for its superb sound & display quality. Company is still working hard to redefine the Video Experience of its customers. We have already seen the amazing picture quality of Sony in its devices like LED TVs, Playstations, TFT Displays etc. It seems like these days company is working on decreasing the size and increasing the functionality of OLED displays.
In the efforts of making displays portable and more sensational, some days ago Sony showed off some new bendable display technologies. The company showed the prototypes of these technologies at last week’s SID conference in LA. The company introduced many advanced display technologies including a color unit and the extremely flexible black and white e-paper display. This e-paper display can be bent to a 5mm curvature radius.
The 13.3-inch e-paper display has a 1,600 x 1,200 (150ppi) resolution and is powered by Organic TFTs. Sony showed off this display and also bent the display at the show. Flexible e-paper uses E Ink Corp’s electrophoretic front plane laminate. If we list down the features of this ultra thin display, then it will be something like this-
Screen size: 13.3 inches
Pixel count: 1,600 x 1,200
Pixel size: 169m x 169m
Resolution: 150ppi
Aperture ratio: 94%
Contrast ratio: 10:1
Gradation: 16
Thickness: 120?m
Peri-Xanthenoxanthene (PXX) was used for making the semiconductor layer of this organic TFT display. Highest process temperature of the organic TFT display is 150°C. Channel length, carrier mobility and on/off ratio are 5?m, 0.5cm2/Vs and 107, respectively.
