After a successful use of Apple’s iPad in Federal Aviation Administration, now some other big carriers are also thinking about using iPad for several purposes of aviation.
Delta Air Lines, the second largest carrier in the world is these days thinking about using iPad and other tablets for paperless cockpits. This news is out just after the approval of use of iPad in FAA (Federal Aviation Administration).
I want to let you know that FAA started granting approvals for using electronic flight bags for aviation purposes; but the options are pretty costly and heavy right now. One computer from Astronautics Corporation of America weighs around 18 pounds. On the other hands, Apple’s iPad will weigh only 1.3 pounds for the same purpose.
FAA granted first approval for using iPad as paperless cockpits on Feb 1, 2011 and it worked so successfully that the company made 250 flights as part of the certification process with maps and accessories created for iPad.
Now Delta is also planning to use iPad for the same purpose from next quarter.
On the other hand, Alaska Air Lines; another big carrier is also testing iPad for some other uses.
So finally, we can say that iPad may be used by all major Air Lines in the future. So Apple must be proud of it!
